About the journal
AJP Online provides Tables of Contents and Abstracts in HTML format beginning with the January 1999 issue. Full-text articles are available in PDF, HTML full-text, and PostScript format. Searchability is provided via three options: users may search (1) a "current issue" database that contains only abstracts contained in the current issue, (2) an "all issues" database that contains abstracts from all online issues published to date, and (3) a database containing all abstracts from 1975 to the present. Full descriptions of all aspects of this journal, as well as documentation germane to its use, can be found by reading the Online Help.

Submission Guidelines
Manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor either by snail mail to the address below or electronically (preferred). DO NOT SEND DISKETTES. Submission is a representation that the manuscript has not been published previously nor is currently being considered for publication elsewhere. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, a signed statement must be submitted to the American Institute of Physics, transferring copyright to the AAPT; the appropriate form will be supplied at the time of acceptance.
Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the general requirements summarized in the Information for Contributors published in the January issue of the Journal.
To submit a manuscript by mail, send five copies to
Editor American Journal of Physics Kalamazoo College Kalamazoo, MI 49006 Electronic submissions are more likely to move through the review and editing stages faster.
Referee reports can be submitted by e-mail to ajp@kzoo.edu (preferred) or sent by regular mail.
AJP accept manuscripts electronically!
We encourage the submission of manuscripts electronically. Electronic submissions are likely to move through the review and editing stages much faster. Please do not send diskettes.
Electronic submissions may be sent by e-mail as attachments to ajp@kzoo.edu. Alternatively, they can be submitted using a Web-based form. Multiple files are most efficiently uploaded as a single .tar.gz file. or as a single .zip file.
Which text formats does AJP accept? AJP accepts author-prepared text files in the following formats: REVTeX/LaTeX (much preferred) and Microsoft Word. The desired style for REVTeX is prb. Please use LaTeX2e and REVTeX4. If you use any uncommon style files please send the style files to us as well.
Our acceptance of Word files is tentative. Word files must be readable by both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Use the Microsoft Word template available at http://www.aip.org/pubservs/compuscript.html. Avoid using non-standard fonts and use the built-in equation editor in Word. The figures should be saved as postscript files.
For review purposes all electronic submissions must include a single pdf file that contains all the figures and figure captions. This file should be checked before sending to make sure it is readable and includes all the fonts and desires symbols. If only a pdf file is sent, we may be able to speed up the reviewing process, but it will not have any effect on the editing and publication schedule if the manuscript is accepted.
Figures Figures should be saved as postscript files. Each figure should be in a separate file with a filename that includes the first author's name and the figure number, for example, JonesFig1.ps. The first author's name and figure number should be included at the bottom of each figure, for example, JonesFig1.
Figure captions should not appear in the postscript file, but should be included on a separate page in the text.
Toolkits
More detailed information on preparing manuscripts will be available soon.
A useful toolkit for preparing manuscripts, especially for Microsoft Word, can be found at http://www.aip.org/pubservs/compuscript.html.
Web-based form for submission of manuscripts
Use one of the following browsers:
- Netscape 2 and later.
- IE 3.02 and later for Windows, IE 5.0 and later for MacOS.
- IE 5.1, Mozilla 1.0, and Omniweb 4 for MacOS X.
- Opera 5 and later for Windows, MacOS and Linux.
