Instructions to Authors
Instructions for authors

Legal requirements
The author(s) guarantee(s) that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright owners, that the rights of third parties will not be violated, and that the publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Authors wishing to include figures or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors. Manuscripts must be accompanied by the Copyright Transfer Statement. The form can be obtained from springer.com/journal/11547
Manuscripts submitted for publication must contain a statement to the effect that all human studies have been approved by the appropriate ethics committee and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. It should also be stated clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study. Details that might disclose the identity of the subjects under study should be omitted.
The editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements. The author will be held responsible for false statements or failure to fulfill the above-mentioned requirements.
Open Choice Publication
In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular subscription-basedarticle, but in addition is made available publicly through Springers online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit www.springeronline.com/openchoice to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before
publication or articles will be published as regular subscription-model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
Editorial procedure
Manuscripts should be submitted either in Italian or in English (Title, Abstract, Figure and Table legends must be submitted both in Italian and in English).
Authors should submit their manuscripts online to facilitate even quicker and more efficient processing. Electronic submission substantially reduces the editorial processing
and reviewing times and shortens overall publication times. Please log directly onto the site http://www.editorialmanager.com/rame and upload your manuscript following the on-screen instructions. If you have any questions please contact: SIRM Secretariat
Manuscripts can be submitted by regular mail in duplicate together with two sets of illustrations and accompanied by a disk containing the electronic version to:

application; they must not exceed 8 typed pages, 2-3 illustrations and 20 references.

Letters to the editor must not exceed 2 typed pages (and 5 references) and should be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief.

The manuscripts and the figures will not normally be returned, unless specifically requested by the authors.
Papers that do not conform to the journal norms may not be considered for publication.
Manuscript preparation

A concise and informative title (typed both in Italian and in English)

The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)

The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the communicating author

An abstract typed both in Italian and in English should precede the main text. It should not exceed 200 words and must be divided into the following sections: Objective, Materials and methods, Results, Conclusions

Keywords. Three to five keywords taken from Index Medicus (Medical Subject Headings) should be supplied after the abstract for indexing purposes.

La radiologia medica

Abbreviations should be defined at first mention in the abstract and again in the main body of the text and used consistently thereafter. The international system of units (SI units) should be used.

The Introduction should state the purpose of the investigation and give a short review of the pertinent literature.

The Materials and methods section should follow the Introduction and should provide enough information to ensure the reproducibility of the experimental work.

The Results section should describe the outcome of the study. Data should be presented as concisely as possible, if appropriate in the form of tables or figures, although very large tables should be avoided.

The Discussion should be an interpretation of the results and their significance with reference to work by other authors.

Acknowledgements. These should be as brief as possible. Any grant that requires acknowledgement should be mentioned. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

References should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications should only be mentioned in the text. If available the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) can be added at the end of the reference in question. Citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets. References should be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text and listed at the end of the paper in numerical order. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus.
References with correct punctuation should be styled as follows:

Illustrations and Tables
All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be cited in the text, and each numbered consecutively throughout. Lowercase letters (a, b etc.) should be used to identify figure parts.

Half-tone illustrations (black and white and color, avoid green/light blue background) should be submitted as well-contrasted photographic prints with the top indicated on the back (not exceeding 18x24 cm dimensions).
Figure legends must be brief, self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations. The legends should be typed both in Italian and in English and placed at the end of the text on a
separate page.
Tables should have a title and a legend (typed both in Italian and in English) explaining any abbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript
lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data). They should be provided each on a separate page.

Layout guidelines

1. Use a normal, plain font (e.g., Times New Roman) for text. For textual emphasis use italic types.

2. Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.

3. Do not use field functions.

4. For indents use tab stops or other commands, not the space bar.

5. Use the table functions of your word processing program, not spreadsheets, to make tables.

6. Place any figure legends or tables at the end of the article.

7. Submit all figures as separate files and do not integrate them within the text.

Data formats
Save your file in RTF (Rich Text Format) or Microsoft Word compatible formats

Illustrations
The preferred figure formats are EPS for vector graphics exported from a drawing program and TIFF/JPG for halftone
illustrations. EPS files must always contain a preview in TIFF of the figure. Power Point formats are not accepted. Store color illustrations as RGB (8 bits per channel) in
TIFF or JPG format. The file name (one file for each figure) should include the figure number. Figure legends should be included in the text and not in the figure file.
Proofreading
Authors should make their proof corrections on a printout of the pdf file supplied, checking that the text is complete and that all figures and tables are included. After online
publication, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article. The author is entitled to formal corrections only.
Substantial changes in content, e.g. new results, corrected values, title and authorship are not allowed without the approval of the responsible editor.
Offprints
One complimentary copy of the relevant issue plus 25 offprints of each contribution are supplied free of charge. Orders for additional offprints can be placed by returning the order form with the corrected proofs.
