About the journal

Acta Mechanica Sinica, sponsored by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, promotes scientific exchanges and collaboration among Chinese scientists in China and abroad. It features high quality, original papers in all aspects of mechanics and mechanical sciences.

Not only does the journal explore the classical subdivisions of theoretical and applied mechanics such as solid and fluid mechanics, it also explores recently emerging areas such as biomechanics and nanomechanics. In addition, the journal investigates analytical, computational, and experimental progresses in all areas of mechanics. Lastly, it encourages research in interdisciplinary subjects, serving as a bridge between mechanics and other branches of engineering and the sciences.

In addition to research papers, Acta Mechanica Sinica publishes reviews, notes, experimental techniques, scientific events, and other special topics of interest.

Instructions to Authors

Acta Mechanica Sinica

Legal requirements

The author(s) guarantee(s) that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright owners, that the rights of third parties will not be violated, and that the publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation. Authors wishing to include figures or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors. Manuscripts must be accompanied by the ‘‘Copyright Transfer Statement’’. The form can be obtained from springer.com/journal/10409

Editorial procedure

Manuscript should be submitted electronically (in pdf format) to the Managing Editor (e-mail: actams@cstam.org.cn) or in triplicate form via regular post (mailing address: Acta Mechanica Sinica/Editorial Office, No.15 Beisihuanxi Road, Beijing 100190, China). A cover message or letter accompanying the submission should indicate the editor, who, in your opinion, is most closely concerned with the subject matter of the paper.

Manuscript preparation

  • General remarks
Notice that manuscripts submitted should be written in MS Word template, and LaTeX template will not be edited.
  • Title page
    -A concise and informative title
    -The name(s) of the author(s)
    -The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)
-The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the communicating author
  • Abstract Each paper must be preceded by a succinct abstract summarizing the most important results and conclusions.
  • References
The list of References should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications should only be mentioned in the text. In the text, references should be cited by number in a square bracket (e.g. [1], or [1-4]) and listed in numerical order in the reference list. References such as ‘‘personal communications’’ or ‘‘unpublished data’’ cannot be included in the reference list, but should be mentioned in the text in parentheses: this also applies to papers presented at meetings but not yet published or accepted for publication. A date should be given for both ‘‘personal communications’’ and ‘‘unpublished data’’. Papers which have been accepted for publication should be included in the list of references with the name of the journal and ‘‘in press’’. If available the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of the cited literature should be added at the end of the reference in question. Example: Dyall, K.G.: Relative and nonrelative finite nucleus optimized double zeta basis sets for the elements. Theor Chem Acc 99, 366-371 (1998) DOI 10.10007/s002149800025
    Examples:
    Journal articles:
Grissom, L.E., Harcke, H.T.: Ultrasonography of nondevelopmental dysplasia of the hips. Pediatr Radiol 27, 70_74 (1997)
Pugliese, M.J., Cagan, J.: Capturing a rebel: modeling the Harley-Davidson brand through a motorcycle shape grammar. Res Eng Design, (2001) DOI 10.1007/s00163-002- 0013-1 (in press)
    Books:
Larcher, W.: Physiological plant ecology, 3rd edn. Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York (1995) Multiauthor books:
Hovind, H.J.: Traumatic birth injuries. In: Raimondi AJ, Choux M, Di Rocco C (eds) Head injuries in the newborn and infant. (Principles of pediatric neurosurgery) Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York, pp 87_109 (1986)
  • Illustrations and Tables
All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be cited in the text, and each numbered consecutively throughout. Lowercase letters (a, b etc.) should be used to identify figure parts. If illustrations are supplied with uppercase labeling, lowercase letters will still be used in the figure legends and citations. Figure legends must be brief, self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations. The legends should be placed at the end of the text. Tables should have a title and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data). For color illustrations the authors will be expected to make a contribution (€ 950, US $ 1150, plus 16% VAT) towards the extra costs, irrespective of the number of color figures.

Electronic submission of final version

Please send only the final version of the article, as accepted by the editors
  • Preparing your manuscript
The preferred format is Word template. If you are not familiar with Word template, please use LaTeX to prepare your article. The electronic version should include the original source (including all style files and figures) and a PostScript version of the compiled submission. Authors who prepare their papers with LATEX are encouraged to use Springer’s macro package svjour2 for this journal, available at springer.com; springer.com/journal/10409
  • Formulae, symbols and all subscripts, superscripts, Greek letters and other characters must be legible and carefully checked. Standard mathematical notation should be used:
-Single letters that denote mathematical constants, variables, and unknown quantities should be set in italic type in text and in equations.
-Numerals, operators, and punctuation should be set in Roman type (upright), as are commonly defined functions or abbreviations, e.g., cos, det, e or exp, lim, log, max, min, sin, tan, d (for derivative) should also be upright.
-Vectors, tensors, and matrices should be set in an alternative typeface such as bold italic or simply bold.
  • Illustrations
The preferred figure formats are EPS for vector graphics exported from a drawing program and TIFF for halftone illustrations. EPS files must always contain a preview in TIFF of the figure. The file name (one file for each figure) should include the figure number. Figure legends should be included in the text and not in the figure file.
    • Scan resolution: Scanned line drawings should be digitized with a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi relative to the final figure sire. For digital halftones, 300 dpi is usually sufficient.
    • Color illustrations: Store color illustrations as RGB (8 bits per channel) in TIFF format.
    • Vector graphics: Fonts used in the vector graphics must be embedded. Please do not draw with hairlines. The minimum line width is 0.2 mm (i.e., 0.567 pt) relative to the final size.
  • General information on data delivery
Please send a zip file to: actams@cstam.org.cn or upload the manuscript to our submission center: http://www.cstam.org.cn/acta/acta.asp
The e-mail address of the editor: actams@cstam.org.cn
If you want to send several files please use a zip archive or any other archiving software (tar, tar.gz, tgz, tar.Z, taz, gz) If you have not used TeX of LaTeX but some other textprogram (e.g. Word), please send the file in the same way. The typesetter might be able to use it when processing your paper. After uploading the file the submission server will send you an acknowledgement of receipt. If you have any problems or questions concerning the submission of your file, please contact the editor. Please always supply the following information with your data: journal title, operating system, word processing program, drawing program, image processing program, compression program. The file name should be memorable (e.g., editorial manuscript number), have no more than 8 characters, and include no accents or special symbols. Use only the extensions that the program assigns automatically.

Electronic supplementary material

Electronic supplementary material (ESM) for an article in the journal will be published in SpringerLink provided the material is:
  • submitted to the Editor(s) in electronic form together with the paper and is subject to peer review
  • accepted by the journals Editor(s) ESM may consist of
  • information that cannot be printed: animations, videoclips, sound recordings
  • information that is more convenient in electronic form: sequences, spectral data, etc.
  • large original data that relate to the paper, e.g. additional tables, illustrations (color and black & white), etc.
After acceptance by the journals Editor(s) ESM will be published as received from the author in the online version only. Reference will be given in the printed version.

Proofreading

LATEX files are slightly modified during the TEX-editing process so that the general presentation rules of the journal are adhered to. Word files have to be converted and should be proofread carefully by the author. Authors should make their proof corrections on a printout of the pdf file or use the online correction facilities provided with the proof. Corrections should be clear; standard correction marks should be used. Corrections that lead to a change in the page layout should be avoided. The author is entitled to formal corrections only. Substantial changes in content, e.g. new results, corrected values, title and authorship are not allowed without the approval of the responsible editor. In such a case please contact the Editorial Office or the Editor-in-Chief before returning the proofs to the publisher.

Offprints

50 offprints of each contribution are supplied free of charge. If you wish to order additional offprints you must return the order form with the corrected proofs. You are then entitled to receive a pdf file of your article for your own personal use.
